KCD2 master strike is an unlockable sword counter, not a better perfect block. Master Tomcat teaches it at the Nomads' Camp after Combat Training I, if you win the real duel in Combat Training II. Miss that window and Dry Devil can still teach KCD2 master strike later at the Devil's Den. The input is opposite-direction attack inside the green-shield window, not block.
Quick answer: Finish Combat Training I, beat Tomcat, then repeat the move until the lesson closes. After unlock, set the opposite line and press attack when the green shield appears. Use a longsword, one-handed sword, or sabre. A shield is fine with a one-hander. Practice KCD2 master strike on one rested opponent before groups.
How to Unlock KCD2 Master Strike
GamePressure, DualShockers, and the wiki use the same early KCD2 master strike gate: Bara points you to Tomcat at the Nomads' Camp northwest of Semine. Combat Training I covers stance, combos, and perfect blocks. Combat Training II is the unrestricted duel. KCD2 master strike is awarded after that duel and the follow-up repetitions, not after the first free lesson.
Bring a familiar sword and a save. The duel is harder than the tutorial. A horse makes the ride safer; the KCD2 horse guide covers early travel.
If Semine is your next town, the KCD2 Semine guide covers the same road as Gnarly. He is a later sparring option, not the KCD2 master strike unlock.
- Finish Combat Training I.
- Challenge Tomcat to the real duel.
- Win with stamina and distance, not mashing.
- Perform the counter several times when he asks.
- Confirm Combat Training II is closed before you leave camp.
If Tomcat only offers basics, Combat Training I is unfinished. If he is dead or you already live in Kuttenberg, KCD2 master strike is not lost. Steam threads confirm you can pay a caravan back to Trosky once the lock after leaving for Kuttenberg ends. Killing Tomcat before the duel removes the early teacher; that is the one KCD2 master strike miss that forces the Dry Devil path.
Do not ride to the camp starving or in stolen plate that starts a fight with the nomads. KCD2 master strike training needs a legal, rested Henry who can take a hit. If Bara never mentioned Tomcat, go anyway: the arena and the moustached trainer are enough of a landmark.

Use Dry Devil if Tomcat Is No Longer Available
For KCD2 master strike, Fextralife and Casual Game Guides treat Dry Devil at the Devil's Den as the Kuttenberg copy of Combat Training II. The wiki says he offers KCD2 master strike after The Devil's Pack. Other guides open the lesson as soon as you can talk training after Speak of the Devil. If the line is missing, finish the Devil's Pack pickup and try again. Do not treat the disagreement as a broken install.
Dry Devil walks the same opposite-direction counters. Once that lesson ends, KCD2 master strike is on the character. You do not need both trainers.
KCD2 Master Strike Timing
KCD2 master strike uses the same green-shield window as a perfect block. The difference is the button. GamePressure's KCD2 master strike instruction is blunt: press attack, from the opposite side. Left incoming needs a right-side answer. Overhead needs the low or thrust line Tomcat showed. Block in that window is a perfect block. Block then attack is a riposte. Neither is KCD2 master strike.
- Watch the blade and shoulder, not only the icon.
- Set the opposite direction before the swing lands.
- Press attack once when the shield turns green.
- Keep enough stamina to recover if you miss.
Mashing starts an ordinary cut and eats the window. On a controller, hold the chosen stick direction instead of flicking; the KCD2 Xbox guide covers platform display and controller setup if input still feels late outside training. In Hardcore, UI cues shrink; read the release of the enemy blade. KCD2 master strike still uses the same opposite-side rule.
Groups hide the cue. Train one-on-one first. If Mutt or a companion pulls the camera, park them; the KCD2 Mutt guide is for companion control, not for the counter itself.

Compatible Weapons and Stances
For Henry, KCD2 master strike is a sword technique. Longsword, one-handed sword, and sabre work. A one-handed sword plus shield still performs KCD2 master strike. Axes, maces, hammers, polearms, fists, bows, and guns do not get Tomcat's input, even when an NPC animation looks similar.
The KCD2 master strike weapon rule is easier to apply after comparing reach, requirements, and damage types in the KCD2 weapons guide; choose a sword Henry can control, not merely the highest number.
There is no second KCD2 master strike lesson per blade. If a longsword works and a mace does not, the unlock is intact. Switch back to a sword and test one opponent.
When KCD2 Master Strike Fails
| What you see | Likely cause | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Perfect block | You pressed block | Attack in the same green window |
| Ordinary swing | Mash or early press | One input after green |
| Nothing | Wrong side or low stamina | Reset direction, rest |
| Works with sword, not mace | Weapon rule | Equip a sword |
| Tomcat has no duel | Combat Training I open | Finish the first lesson |
| Already in Kuttenberg | Missed Trosky window | Caravan back or Dry Devil |
A failed KCD2 master strike is almost always input, direction, stamina, or weapon. It is rarely a vanished perk. Check the Combat Training II journal before you assume the lesson never completed.
If stamina disappears before the green window, use the KCD2 armor guide to check weight and layered protection before changing the counter input.
A Repeatable KCD2 Master Strike Drill
In KCD2 master strike practice, use the arena or a lone bandit you can break off from. Equip the sword you actually fight with. Start KCD2 master strike practice at half speed: let one cut come in, set the opposite line early, and take only that exchange.
Do ten clean KCD2 master strike counters in a row before you add footwork. If you drop two in a row, stop and name the failure: block instead of attack, same-side swing, or no stamina. Change one variable. Switching swords, adding a shield, and inviting a second enemy at once hides the mistake.
Console and PC use the same KCD2 master strike rule. The green shield is the window, not a separate button. On a pad, a small deadzone and a held direction beat a frantic flick. On mouse, pre-aim the opposite zone so the click only has to land in time.
KCD2 master strike against a master-strike NPC is a different problem. High-skill swordsmen will answer your sloppy cut with the same counter. After the unlock, your job is to stop feeding them a readable same-side swing.
If the drill works in the arena and fails on the road, the fight is crowded or you are tired. Rest, drop loot weight, and retry KCD2 master strike on one target. Do not unlock a second trainer hoping the input changes. It does not.
The Best Time to Learn It
| Situation | Timing | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh Trosky Henry | After a real sword and a horse, not in rags | Safer duel, later unlock |
| Missed Tomcat | Devil's Den after you can talk training | Weeks later in the story |
| Longsword user | Practice reach and opposite lines | No shield safety |
| Shield user | Clearest beginner KCD2 master strike drill | Slower offense |
| Hardcore | Learn the shoulder tell before groups | Fewer UI crutches |
KCD2 master strike does not replace armour, repair, or spacing. It does replace panic blocking once the window is readable. Keep a save before Tomcat's duel and another before Dry Devil's lesson if you are using the fallback.
A later KCD2 master strike lesson does not make enemies easier on the first night in Trosky. Learn it when you have a sword you trust. Then use KCD2 master strike as the answer to one readable cut, not as a plan for three attackers.

To learn KCD2 master strike, beat Tomcat in Combat Training II and finish the repeated counters. Or take Dry Devil's later KCD2 master strike lesson.
Which button triggers it?
KCD2 master strike uses a normal attack from the opposite side during the green shield. Do not press block.
Why do I get a perfect block instead?

Can I learn it after reaching Kuttenberg?
Yes. Learn KCD2 master strike from Tomcat when travel reopens, or train KCD2 master strike with Dry Devil at the Devil's Den.
