The short answer
KCD2 Via Argentum is main quest 17 in Kuttenberg. Help the Ruthards, compare three mine shifts whose 34, 36, and 30 corves total 100 against a ledger showing 90, then follow the missing silver through Buresh's Grund smelter to Volkmar and the secret mint east of Grund. Inside, obtain the Secret mint ledgers; the table key opens the coiners' room, while Buresh's records key opens the evidence chest. Report to Christian with the evidence and decide whether to support his plan.
Cover disclosure: the KCD2 Via Argentum cover is an AI-generated conceptual illustration, not a gameplay screenshot.
KCD2 Via Argentum is an investigation, not one continuous fight. It combines dialogue, outfit, mine, and key checks. Save before meeting Buresh, confronting Volkmar, and entering the secret mint so KCD2 Via Argentum remains recoverable if a route turns hostile.
KCD2 Via Argentum prerequisites and preparation
KCD2 Via Argentum follows Into the Underworld. Go to Ruthard Palace when the journal names Kunzlin Ruthard. Help his family during the courtyard fight, return inside, and accept the job to prove Vavak is stealing royal silver. KCD2 Via Argentum has no romance lock; Rosa's missable book begins next quest, as the KCD2 Rosa guide explains.
KCD2 Via Argentum sends Henry to Christian of Pisek at the Horschan mines. Use the password Via argentum, follow him in private, and take his entry letter. Different KCD2 Via Argentum builds work, but preparation prevents common stalls.

KCD2 Via Argentum mine and smelter investigation
KCD2 Via Argentum asks Henry to question three shifts about the Feast of St. Petronilla. Speech, Dread, bribes, dice, beer, or prayer can reveal the figures. Record each amount rather than guessing who lies.
KCD2 Via Argentum missing-silver calculation
| KCD2 Via Argentum witness | Reported amount | Practical approach |
|---|---|---|
| Samko, resting above ground | 34 corves | Speech, Dread, 200 Groschen, or dice |
| Frank, near the mine entrance | 36 corves | Dialogue check, beer, or a small bribe |
| Paul, deep in the mine | 30 corves | Show sympathy and pray with him |
| KCD2 Via Argentum total actually mined | 100 corves | Report Less when Christian compares it with the book |
| Official ledger | 90 corves | Ten corves are missing |
After KCD2 Via Argentum proves the discrepancy, confront Chief Foreman Fett and ore merchant Hermann. Challenge the false numbers, then promise cooperation will not automatically punish them. Their confessions move KCD2 Via Argentum to the Grund smelter and close the mine phase of KCD2 Via Argentum.
Get Buresh to speak in KCD2 Via Argentum
KCD2 Via Argentum marks Buresh optional, but his safe-conduct letter makes the KCD2 Via Argentum search cleaner. Wash Henry, wear noble civilian clothes, and remove weapons plus every armour layer. A gambeson, mail, leg armour, or hidden weapon can fail the check despite high Charisma.
If Buresh refuses KCD2 Via Argentum dialogue, ignore unreliable fixed Charisma claims. Remove all equipment, confirm Henry is clean, and rebuild a civilian outfit one piece at a time. Say Henry wants to inspect a smelter; the resulting KCD2 Via Argentum letter permits the grounds search.

Follow Shima to Volkmar
Inside Grund, KCD2 Via Argentum marks Shima after Henry questions a worker. Shima moves and avoids sensitive talk inside the yard. Follow him outside, wait until he stops, then use Craftsmanship, Speech, Charisma, Dread, or a bribe. He identifies Volkmar.

Wear combat gear before visiting Volkmar by the eastern Grund stables. KCD2 Via Argentum confronts Henry with three men; a successful timed demand for a fair duel reduces the KCD2 Via Argentum fight to Little Nary. Otherwise avoid being surrounded. Question Volkmar, demand the map, then release him, kill him, or charge 100 Groschen. The map is the essential KCD2 Via Argentum result.

KCD2 Via Argentum secret mint and evidence
The KCD2 Via Argentum map points east of Grund. At the KCD2 Via Argentum search area's southern edge, find a ladder opening near Buresh's horse Agro. Exterior patrols are avoidable. Descend with light and save before the occupied chamber.

Refusing Buresh starts a fight with three armoured guards. Use the narrow KCD2 Via Argentum passage to prevent encirclement. Then question Buresh, demand evidence, and decide his fate. He can provide the records key and Vavak's letter. Any later payment is separate from the initial silence offer.
KCD2 Via Argentum uses two different keys:
KCD2 Via Argentum key and evidence check
| Object | Where it comes from | What it opens |
|---|---|---|
| Secret preghaus key | Table in Buresh's main mint chamber | Door to the two imprisoned coiners |
| Records chest key | Buresh after the evidence route | Chest containing the Secret mint ledgers |
| Lockpick fallback | Henry's inventory or nearby supplies | The relevant medium lock when the key route is unavailable |
| Minting die | Coiners/evidence area | Extra evidence for Christian; not a player money-printing system |

Enter the coiners' room and question both prisoners. KCD2 Via Argentum can add an optional rescue objective. They will not leave while KCD2 Via Argentum guards control the mint. Freeing them adds reputation; the ledger remains the main-story proof.
Before leaving KCD2 Via Argentum, verify Secret mint ledgers are in inventory. The table key is not evidence. The minting die and Vavak's letter improve the report but cannot replace the ledger.
KCD2 Via Argentum evidence-room check
- Take the Secret preghaus key from the main chamber table.
- Open the coiners' room and hear where the KCD2 Via Argentum evidence is stored.
- Use Buresh's records key or the supported lockpick route on the chest.
- Take the Secret mint ledgers and the minting die.
- Resolve the optional coiners objective only if you want the extra reputation.
- Return to Christian with the ledger before advancing KCD2 Via Argentum.
KCD2 Via Argentum choices, rewards and consequences
KCD2 Via Argentum has separate payments, not one combined reward: Volkmar may pay 100 Groschen, Buresh up to 475, and Christian's complete KCD2 Via Argentum partnership report 625. Loot is separate and may carry crime or reputation costs.
What each KCD2 Via Argentum choice changes
| Choice | Immediate result | Supported longer-term effect |
|---|---|---|
| Let Volkmar pay and leave | 100 Groschen and the route continues | The map still advances the investigation |
| Refuse Buresh's silence deal | Fight the armoured guards | Gives a direct path to question him and seek the records key |
| Accept money but keep investigating | Avoid or delay combat on some routes | Henry must still secure the ledger; route behaviour can vary |
| Free the imprisoned coiners | Additional reputation | Does not replace the ledger requirement |
| Accept Christian's plan | Up to 625 Groschen with a complete report | Christian stays friendly in Oratores unless Henry later exposes the secret-mint plan to Vavak |
| Refuse Christian's plan | No partnership payment; KCD2 Via Argentum still completes | Christian is hostile in Oratores, forcing a fight with him and his guards |
The minting die grants no recurring income and is not a Legacy of the Forge recipe. Treat it as KCD2 Via Argentum evidence. Christian proposes a political scheme, not a player business. Refusing still completes KCD2 Via Argentum, but it makes Christian hostile in Oratores; accepting preserves the peaceful later meeting only if Henry does not expose the secret-mint plan to Vavak.
Completing KCD2 Via Argentum plus the parallel Kuttenberg story work opens Taking French Leave. Rosa's book becomes missable there. The KCD2 Hans Capon guide covers its tower, passage, and escape.
KCD2 Via Argentum troubleshooting
KCD2 Via Argentum recovery checks
| Symptom | Likely cause | Recovery |
|---|---|---|
| Buresh says Henry is unsuitable or armed | Weapon, dirt, blood, gambeson, mail, or another armour layer remains | Wash, unequip everything, then rebuild a clean civilian outfit |
| Shima only gives ordinary dialogue | The smelter has not been questioned, or Shima is still inside the unsafe area | Ask another worker, inspect the active clue, follow Shima outside, and speak after he stops |
| Volkmar is absent | Wrong time, incomplete Shima step, or the marker has not advanced | Finish Shima's outside conversation and return by day |
| Table key does not open the evidence chest | It is the Secret preghaus door key | Use it on the coiners' room; obtain Buresh's records key or lockpick the chest |
| Guards attack after a bribe | The deal did not authorize taking evidence | Reload the pre-dialogue save, choose a direct evidence route, or prepare for the fight |
| KCD2 Via Argentum will not conclude | Ledger was not collected or Christian has not received the complete report | Check inventory for Secret mint ledgers, then revisit Christian and exhaust the evidence dialogue |
Community reports describe occasional pathing, hostility, and dialogue-state problems in KCD2 Via Argentum, but there is no quest-specific official patch note confirming one universal bug. Prefer a named manual save and the journal's current objective over killing an essential witness. If a recovery changes the route, verify that the ledger remains obtainable before overwriting the earlier save.
