KCD2 DLC: Ownership, Start Gates, and Play Order

KCD2 DLC is not one download and not one quest marker. Ownership, installation, store region, and story progress are four separate checks. If you bought the Expansion Pass or Royal Edition and still see nothing new, treat that as a KCD2 DLC diagnosis before you reinstall the game or delete a save.

Quick answer: Expansion Pass KCD2 DLC covers three story packs plus Shields of Seasons Passing. Royal Edition KCD2 DLC adds the base game, Lion's Crest, and the Gallant Huntsman's Kit. Start Lion's Crest after the prologue, Brushes with Death after For Whom the Bell Tolls, Legacy of the Forge after Speak of the Devil, and Mysteria Ecclesiae on day two of The Sword and the Quill. Release order is the safest first-run KCD2 DLC path; start Legacy soon after unlock if you want the forge during the campaign.

Official store and publisher pages agree on that split. Steam's Expansion Pass lists Brushes with Death, Legacy of the Forge, Mysteria Ecclesiae, and the seasonal shields. PLAION's Royal Edition announcement adds Lion's Crest and the hunter kit. Older Gold Edition pages described the pass plus the hunter kit; they did not include Lion's Crest unless you also pre-ordered or later bought Royal Edition.

Check the listed items, not the edition name. A physical disc must also match the store-account region before KCD2 DLC will unlock.

How to Install KCD2 DLC

Do this before a full reinstall:

  1. Open the store page on the account that owns the base game.
  2. Open Manage Game Content, the add-on list, or launcher properties.
  3. Confirm each KCD2 DLC package is owned, downloaded, and enabled.
  4. Finish any pending update, then fully restart the launcher or console.
  5. Load a manual save outside a wedding, castle siege, council, battle, or endgame lock. The KCD2 wedding guide shows the earliest long story lock that hides a KCD2 DLC marker.
  6. Travel to the correct region and meet that pack's story prerequisite.

Steam can show the pass as owned while one child KCD2 DLC package is still inactive. PlayStation and Xbox often need a second download from the add-on manager; PLAION even asks PlayStation Expansion Pass owners to claim Shields of Seasons Passing from the store. On Sony's console, the KCD2 PS5 guide shows where storage, full restarts, and Manage Game Content fit into that check. If KCD2 DLC appeared and then vanished, restore licenses, restart the platform, and test without outdated mods. Keep the original save. A missing KCD2 DLC marker is usually entitlement, installation, or progression.

KCD2 DLC Play Order

KCD2 DLC does not force one global sequence. Start each pack after its gate, and start Legacy early enough that the forge is still useful.

  1. Lion's Crest — Optional Trosky treasure hunt after the prologue. This KCD2 DLC is separate from the Expansion Pass trilogy; use the KCD2 Lion's Crest route when Scribe Gaibl is available.
  2. Brushes with Death — After For Whom the Bell Tolls. This KCD2 DLC crosses Trosky and later Kuttenberg, so it can sit beside the main journey. The Brushes with Death start is southeast of Trosky Castle.
  3. Legacy of the Forge — After Speak of the Devil in Kuttenberg. Begin this KCD2 DLC soon after unlock; the forge pays off during an active campaign. The Legacy of the Forge start is the ruined forge near the Hole in the Wall.
  4. Mysteria Ecclesiae — On day two of Main Quest 13, The Sword and the Quill. This KCD2 DLC becomes a contained quarantine with missable work. The Mysteria Ecclesiae start depends on whether the main story is still active or already complete.

Brushes can pause at its region gate. Legacy can run beside Kuttenberg side work. Mysteria wants an unbroken stretch. Installing KCD2 DLC never forces Henry into a quest.

Start Requirements for Every KCD2 DLC

Lion's Crest

Finish the prologue, reach free movement in Trosky, and speak to Scribe Gaibl in Troskowitz. Official and wiki pages place this KCD2 DLC after Laboratores. Once Gaibl hands over the Brunswick clues, the KCD2 riddle guide covers the map chain. If Gaibl has no new dialogue, confirm Lion's Crest separately from other KCD2 DLC.

Before this KCD2 DLC treasure route, free some carrying space and bring a mount. The KCD2 horse guide helps if travel or capacity is the part you still need to solve.

Brushes with Death

Complete For Whom the Bell Tolls, then find the purple painter marker southeast of Trosky Castle, west of Apollonia. Independent guides (IGN, GamesRadar, PCGamesN) all use that KCD2 DLC gate. If you already live in Kuttenberg, travel back to Trosky; this marker will not appear on the second map. A quiet journal after the first chapters is normal. Later chapters need Kuttenberg access. That pause is a story gate, not a broken KCD2 DLC install.

Legacy of the Forge

Reach Kuttenberg and complete Speak of the Devil. Wiki and start guides put this KCD2 DLC anvil on the eastern side of the city, near the Hole in the Wall; Čáslavská / Caslavska Gate is the usual fast-travel hop. Interact with the burnt forge to begin Adept. If you own the pack and see no anvil, confirm the prerequisite and the installed child package before riding between maps. High blacksmithing is not a KCD2 DLC start requirement.

Mysteria Ecclesiae

For this KCD2 DLC, reach day two of Main Quest 13, The Sword and the Quill, then speak with Peter of Pisek at Suchdol. If the main story is complete, find him at the mintmaster's house in Kuttenberg. Look for a purple icon with a gold cross. You do not need a post-ending save. Finish work, repair gear, pack alchemy supplies, and make a save before you enter this KCD2 DLC.

When Each Expansion Fits the Story

GoalTimingTradeoff
First playthroughStart each KCD2 DLC story soon after its gateNatural difficulty, longer campaign
Smithing or a city homeStart Legacy as soon as the KCD2 DLC unlocksMore use from forge upgrades
Uninterrupted main plotSave story KCD2 DLC for free roamCleaner pacing; late Henry flattens fights
Achievement cleanupManual save before each opening questSafer choices, more saves
HardcoreDelay harder encounters until equippedLower risk, fewer early rewards

Lion's Crest is the only KCD2 DLC that can tilt early combat, because the Brunswick route hands out equipment. The three story expansions stay quiet until you accept them. Steam and Reddit threads keep mixing Lion's Crest with the pass: you can play the treasure hunt in early Trosky whether or not you own the rest of the KCD2 DLC trilogy.

Missing KCD2 DLC Marker

Work this KCD2 DLC list in order.

  • Pass owned, child pack missing: open the library and claim or download the individual KCD2 DLC package. Steam discussions after Gold Edition purchases often show this exact gap with Lion's Crest.
  • Installed, no purple marker: finish the named prerequisite and leave any locked story sequence. Brushes needs Trosky after For Whom the Bell Tolls; Legacy needs Kuttenberg progress; Mysteria needs day two of The Sword and the Quill.
  • Wrong map: Brushes KCD2 DLC begins in Trosky. A Kuttenberg-only save will not show Voyta until you travel back.
  • Peter not where a guide screenshot is: during the campaign, check Suchdol. Only a save that has completed the whole main story uses the Kuttenberg mintmaster's house.
  • Old save or transferred files: restart the platform, restore licenses, and load a manual free-roam save. Some launchers list KCD2 DLC as owned while the extras menu still offers a buy prompt.
  • Modded PC: disable outdated UI, quest, and data mods first. Use KCD2 commands only on a copied save.
  • Lion's Crest still priced: inspect the edition line. Expansion Pass KCD2 DLC does not include it; Royal Edition does.

Do not delete saves or repurchase before completing every KCD2 DLC check.

KCD2 DLC FAQ

How many story expansions are there?

Three: Brushes with Death, Legacy of the Forge, and Mysteria Ecclesiae. Publisher notes call Mysteria the final story expansion. Lion's Crest is a separate KCD2 DLC treasure add-on.

Does the Expansion Pass include Lion's Crest?

No. Expansion Pass KCD2 DLC covers the three stories and Shields of Seasons Passing. Royal Edition also includes Lion's Crest and the Gallant Huntsman's Kit. Pre-order copies received Lion's Crest; later Gold Edition copies often did not.

Can KCD2 DLC be played after the ending?

Yes. KCD2 DLC remains playable after the ending once each pack's own conditions are met. A finished Henry can flatten some fights, which is why Legacy is more useful during the Kuttenberg campaign.

Why does a purchased pack still not appear?

Uninstalled child package, unmet quest, wrong region, story lock, or an outdated mod. Run those KCD2 DLC checks before a reinstall.
